DFM 2025

Somewhere Between Homes (2025) Tenzin Choezin

The 2025 edition of DFM — Drung Filmmaking Mentorship has concluded, marking another cycle of focused mentorship and short-film production within the Drung ecosystem. This year, two participants developed and completed original short films under the guidance of filmmaker and former NYU professor Hiroshi Sunairi.

The mentorship program offered close creative support throughout writing, development, and production, allowing each filmmaker to shape a distinct voice and approach. The two short films produced as part of DFM 2025 are Somewhere Between Homes and A Phone Call, both engaging with themes of displacement, memory, and personal transition.

A Phone Call went on to screen at the Tibet Film Festival 2025, where it received the Yak Prize for Best Short Film, awarded by the festival jury. The recognition reflects the strength of the work developed through the mentorship process and the commitment of the filmmaker to the craft.

DFM continues to function as a space for sustained learning, exchange, and experimentation, supporting emerging filmmakers through hands-on guidance and production experience. More updates, images, and reflections from the 2025 mentorship cycle can be found across Drung’s social media platforms.
